Appointments
Our office is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

When scheduling an appointment, please be prepared to tell the receptionist the reason for your visit so that we can set aside the appropriate amount of time. Follow-up and urgent care visits are 15 minutes, and annual exams are scheduled for 30-45 minutes, depending on the physician and the complexity of your medical health. If you have an emergency or urgent problem, please inform us immediately so that we can see you as soon as possible. Same-day appointments are usually available. If you find that you are going to be late or that you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us as soon as possible. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a charge.

Telephone Calls and Emergency Care
The telephone is answered between 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. on Friday. Our physicians and staff make every effort to return patient phone calls in a timely manner. After hours, you may reach the physician on-call for urgent medical problems by calling 301-942-2212 and pressing option 6. In a life-threatening emergency, you should call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room. Please notify us within 24 hours of any emergency room visit or hospital admission.

Prescription and Refills
Except in the case of an emergency, prescription refills will be handled only during business hours. You may have your pharmacy call us or you can call the office with all necessary information. Messages can be left on the prescription refill line, which is checked at least twice a day. Refill requests will be processed within 48 hours. For ongoing prescriptions, please notify us or your pharmacist a few days before running out of your medication. By doing so, you will avoid a lapse in your prescription.

Laboratory Results
We are pleased to have an in-house laboratory. Depending on your insurance coverage, blood will either be drawn in our office or at the satellite lab preferred by your insurance carrier. In order to make lab results available to you in a timely and confidential manner, we have implemented the Patient Communicator system. When your lab tests are ordered, you will be given an information sheet with your personal identification number (PIN) and instructions on receiving your results. After reviewing your results, your physician will leave a message for you on the Patient Communicator system. The number to call is 301-493-5052. Using your PIN, you can retrieve lab results at your convenience, day or night. If you have not received your results within 10-14 business days, please contact the office. Your physician will notify you by phone of any lab results that must be dealt with urgently. If you would like a copy of your lab results, please provide a self-addressed stamped envelope, and we will mail your results to you.

Referrals
Many insurance plans require that referrals be obtained prior to any visit with a specialist. Referrals will be mailed to the patient or can be picked up at our office. Except in an emergency, we require 48 hours to process your referral. Referrals cannot be back-dated as that violates our agreement with the insurance companies. Please note that we are not responsible if a specialist allows you to see him or her without the proper referral.
